Inspiration & Aspiration; Miranda Kerr

Inspiration Outfit; Miranda Kerr
This week’s outfit ‘aspiration’ is inspired by the effortlessly stylish Miranda Kerr. Miranda has been on the celebrity scene for some time as a Victoria Secret’s model, yet 2012 was the year she became a fashion icon. Miranda has taken the off-duty model look and made it more stylish than ever, and has made every girl wishing they could afford Isabel Marant.
Here Miranda is wearing an Isabel Marant Khan suede-trimmed bouclé wool-blend coat, pointed toe wedges by Barbara Bui, a delicate blouse, on trend leather trousers and a Valentino Grande Lock bag. Pointed wedges are a key trend this AW’12 with designers such as Pierre Hardy, Givenchy and Rupert Sanderson featuring them in their Winter collections. For a high street alternative head for Zara.
Miranda’s mohair with suede trim oversized coat is perfect for AW’12. This winter coats got voluminous and fabrics were textured. This season spoiled us for choice for styles for coats, the Bouclé and the oversized Boyfriend coat are two key styles, and Miranda has pulled them both off in one. Bouclé is French word for a type of yarn which gives an uneven fabric, or as I would call them, textured coats. Contrasting materials is a huge trend which has remained prominent since AW’11.  I love contrasting materials, the suede trim on this Isabel Marant  coat compliments the tweed elegantly. Leather or suede lapels or piping really add to a Winter coat. For contrasting materials on the high street head for Zara, and for the best textured coats Topshop have an amazing collection.
Topshop’s coat collection a largely based on the Boyfriend style. Oversized coats were seen on the runway this AW’12 at Chloe, Kenso and Jil Sanders, to name a few. Even the renowned classically tailored Maxmara coats were given an oversized silhouette. Last week I wrote on the Androgynous trend, that is styles adapted from our male counterparts and another example of this is the Boyfriend coat. The preceding years having seen many styles adapted from men’s including jeans, aptly named Boyfriend jeans. Boyfriend jeans seemed absurd in time where us girls were ardently wearing our skinnies, yet the Boyfriend jeans were huge. Not unlike the jeans, the Boyfriend coat has become a wardrobe staple. A Boyfriend coat can so simply make an outfit far more stylish, when worn well it gives the style which most of us aim for, effortlessly chic. Once you get used to wearing an oversized coat you won’t want to wear another, they’re so warm and so easy to pull over any outfit whether it be a thick wool jumper or a delicate blouse. But be careful of looking frumpy, if you’re wary of this balance your coat with fitted trousers or tights with wedges, as opposed high leg boots which could swamp you.
Topshop Boyfriend Coats
A great Winter coat is a sartorial necessity, and when it comes to choosing a Winter coat there are two main aspects to consider, practicality and quality. Zara and Topshop will be sure to deliver a range to cater for both. Expect to pay in and around one hundred euro but you really are paying for great quality and heavy, durable material. For a really good investment go for something that won’t go too out of style quickly and that you won’t get sick of. Neautral colours such as black, dark brown, cream or camel is always best; if you’re buying as an investment piece there is no point in choosing a colour that won’t go with most your clothes or more importantly, your bags. You can always easily update your Winter coat, add a fur collar to last years boyfriend coat for a new look. H&M have a great selection of faux fur scarves and collars that have a hidden clip which attaches to your coat, and of course all come with H&M’s satisfying price tags.
Miranda’s outfit is so easy to wear and so stylish yet practical. I love how she’s paired edgy leather trousers and a heavy boyfriend style coat with a polished blouse. I must admit I was not taken with the pointed wedges style at first, however I love how they look with the leather trousers. This outfit is so flattering and is guaranteed to make your legs look longer and the trousers and shoes balance the coat perfectly ensuring the coat won’t swamp you.
This year Miranda Kerr has inspired the leather trouser for casual wear and promoted wedges and the Bouclé coat, all of which are trends that are seemingly not going anywhere for quite some time, so invest wisely.
